YI QING : You even said that you like me lei…
ELVIN : Meijiao jiejie said that when both of you went for karaoke, she saw some
of the old MV scenes, concluding that we looked alike in certain angle.
YI QING: We even carry the same bag.
ELVIN: THere are too many coincidences. HEY wait a minute, I would like to ask
the most important question in this interview. Tell me frankly, you feel that
you look handsome in those days or I looked more handsome than you?
YI QING : Of course I am more handsome…
ELVIN : Why?
YI QING: This is recognized by the public, hahaha.Actually, there are some
differences. Last time we looked pure. But your handsomeness brings some SMART
feeling…
ELVIN : Who said I looked smart?!
YI QING : In those days our handsomeness are different from today. Our eyes
looked bluish, very clear, you look at yourself, your eyes are full of
capillaries, looks reddish, and a bit complex…
ELVIN : You are talking about other male artistes, I just feel that I am like
you.
YI QING: I would like to say that, I really hope after 10-20 years, Elvin still
maintain his present manner. It doesn’t mean that when you’re famous and being a
“A-GE”, you can just
show your temper, and look very unhappy when people are talking about you. I
don’t earn much at my time, however I got to know a lot of friends. This is
because I’m attentive. I don’t even care when people were talking about me. In
some departments young female artistes were told to beware with Wang Yiqing’s
“frights” as he’s very naughty and playful.
ELVIN : I didn’t heard that before…
YI QING : Some female artistes who know me even reflect that, besides handsome,
an artiste must have “eye affinity” with others, too. People like as they look
at you, and they(eyes) must be very bright, too… For you, diligence is more
important. You don’t have training class like what we had, just say that when
someone just pass you a swimming trunk and throw you into the sea. Whether you
can survive or not, that’s your problem. And if you can’t you’re doomed. Luckily
you know how to swim, not just saying that you can swim very well, but at least
you won’t sink. Frankly, when I was young……
ELVIN: I watched your drama “Army Days 1983″ before, haha.
YI QING : Very “du” lei… I myself don’t even dare to watch it. A bit…
ELVIN : Ya! Just like my 3 previous dramas!
YI QING : Aiya! That’s different coz you’re now “A-GE”.
ELVIN: What “A-GE”, not even an “A” okay.
YI QING : However this is a path that everyone must go through. Just like that
night I saw your performance, I just feel that it’s totally different.
ELVIN : Really? Did you lie to me? Haha, Shaun’s wedding ceromont that night
“THE ULTIMATUM”‘s director came to me and said, “Editor said that you act really
well, I don’t know why they said that coz I don’t feel like you’re that good.” I
replied, “WA! Director you are too much! You’re complimenting and “suan” me at
the same time……”
YI QING : It’s OK, it this scene no matter what negative things we heard are
eventually more than that of positive things. 20 years back, reporters had
tonnes of comments for each and every episode, from clothings until acting
skills. In other words they are findind problems. Just be optimistic. Viewers
know that those news are true or not, as they have a pair of bright eyes…
ELVIN : Not bright at all! People just believe whatever the papers write. I’m
not lying! Not bright at all! Dad and Mum told me that things written in the
press are not through precise thoughts. As an artiste, it’s better to have news
than none.
YI QING : Did I ever change? I was very “guai”( good boy ) last time, just that
now I’m a bit naughty. Ya, an artistes must have different aspects. I was really
a good boy when I was young. I only started to date when I was 21. How about
you?
ELVIN : Quite late, too. People did that during sec, for me in JC ba… Maybe
you think that I was too good. You even said, man must be bad even a little.
Girls won’t like man which are not bad enough…
YI QING: Haha, don’t you simple say… You made me took the rap for that…
ELVIN : (TOWARDS THE REPORTER) You believe in him or me? Ha, I am an honest guy,
I just say what I have.
YI QING : Actually after filming 2 dramas, I knew something about you. You are
really scared to dance, me too; You are quient, me too. Last time when I talked
to someone, I don’t even dare to look on his or her eyes. Why my eyes didn’t
even blink throughout the whole Episode 1 of “Army Days 1983″? This is because
Mr Mao Wei told me that during acting, people are saying the lines, you look at
him or her. You need to look at him or her even you’re saying the lines. And I
thought that I just need to SEE, so I didn’t even dare to blink my eyes. Walau!
Why my eyes looked like goldfish?
ELVIN : In contrary, I turned my head back when I was saying the lines halfway
coz I’m shy… You really affect me a lot and I gonna learn some bad things….
YI QING : In order for us to learn to be bad, we need to SEE. It doesn’t mean
that if you want to act as a womanizer, you need go to the nightclub every
night. You must know what is your purpose. You are not going to cheat those
girls, cheating here and there and I tell ya you’re doomed if one day there’s a
girl waiting outside the TV station with an umbrella on her hand.
ELVIN : Zoe jie said that you’re very emotional… She even titter, saying that
even sometimes you looked very very hurt when you’re hurt.
YI QING : This is because I’m quite wallow and preoccupied. When I started to
date a girl, the programme director told me not to do so. But love is a personal
matter, outsiders can’t know what we really feel. I just don’t care and maybe
because of this I will lose some fans, but I strongly believe that happiness
belongs to us.
In Singapore no matter what fans you’re, it’s just the same group all along.
Today they give you their applause, but tomorrow maybe they’ll even forget who
you’re. You won’t feel really good. As an artiste we must let go, you must be
clear in this. As you can see in “Star Awards” we heard people shouting : Zoe!
Zoe! However in just a short moment the same group shouted : Fann! It’s just the
same group, and sometimes the TV station did this in order to create some kind
of atmosphere.

Elvin: You are a devoted and sensual person? Your good friends said so.

Wang Yu Qin: Who? Give me an example la.

Elvin: In The Ultimatum, Ye family…….Ben, Zoe Tay, Mei Jiao, talk about you in such a positive/happy manner. I feel that you have a good working relationship with others, not only that, your luck with girls is also good, haha! Telling you in the positive light it’s true, the negative is that girls get bluffed leh.

Wang Yu Qin: Actually if you tell me to lie, I also will not lie…

Elvin: Being a glib talker is good enough already, you say something, and girls will feel sweet in their hearts.

Wang Yu Qin: Be true lor. Many girls are very good to me, but I never take advantage of them. You can say that I am cynical, like to bluff little girls, I know what I am doing, and those girls who understand me know that I never do anything to them, that’s why my friends are getting more and more. I have been through periods in the past, feel very moody, thinking to myself that I have so many friends, what’s there to be sad about.

Elvin: How would you describe your past relationships?

Wang Yu Qin: When I love someone, I’ll give her everything. Because with this kind of thinking, in an indirect way you have expectations ma. Nothing getting what you want. So you’ll feel disappointed. Although I have been through a few marriages, and even spend 20 over years. I did spend ? Every relationship I spend 7, 8 years. I have been through 3 relationship, and you?

Elvin: 2 relationships that were quite long. 3 years plus, 5 and a half years.

Wang Yu Qin: 5 and a half years relationship is gone? Because you are famous?

Elvin: No, it’s been to a point that our paths are getting more separate. There has been problems in the past, but we keep trying to restore it, if we want to go on with the relationship we can, in the end we decided to be like this. (break off.)

Wang Yu Qin: You decided or her?

Elvin: Both.

Wang Yu Qin: Because you’re too busy with work?

Elvin: Not related to that. Is reaching a certain period…….

Wang Yu Qin: Which period are you at now?

Elvin: Actually after listening much from others, they say the people there are more chauvinistic, she became a small woman(submissive), many things she didn’t dare to do, also during filming she is a little lost, the friends around her move away from her, I did remind her, even if she is unhappy with what she hears, it’s ok, I’m just telling her the fact. I can feel that there are problems arising in her love life, a great distance is difficult, but she feels that she is fortunate, of course I’ll send her my blessings. In the end I heard that they broke off.

Wang Yu Qing: Are you happy or…..

Elvin: I know you’ll ask me that. She was at Malaysia, I saw the newspaper article and called her, but her handphone was off, did message her to tell her that if you are said then…..ya lor, I was not happy.

Wang Yu Qin: Since both of you are single and available…..

Elvin: Since she was like that, I have already move on a little, intentional or not, it’s for good, with the distance between us, that’s why I did not think in that direction, I have many other things to think about.

Wang Yu Qin: That time when you heard that she and the Taiwan person are together, were you disappointed?

Elvin: I was rather shocked.

Wang Yu Qin: Did you ever regret not confessing to her earlier?

Elvin: The people around me also said that……..Never. I already said we were very good friends, but never take other step up la. There’s some distance I have with her now, talking about this makes me worried, maybe she will think why must talk about her.

Wang Yu Qin: Celebritea also specially cast her with you ma? I believe that it is already generally acknowledged, So it’s ok, for now, if there isn’t anything, you can clarify things with her, to make the state clear.

Elvin: I already clarify things, we are good friends, never take a further step, just lack the “Ok, let’s hold hands.”

Wang Yu Qin: Have la hor? Haha.

Elvin: Just lack that step.

Wang Yu Qin: Only lack a nod of the head hor?

Elvin: When I was filming Kinship for a year, everyone said that she and I were similar….

Wang Yu Qin: Actually my situation was a little like you. Naturally. One drama serial filmed for a year, acting as husband and wife, for a long time, wouldn’t you have feelings? Unless you and her are loggerheads la, or else, two single and available people, sparks will fly, can’t be avoided.

Elvin: But it’s under unnoticed circumstances that I have good feelings.

Wang Yu Qin: You will think that she is very suitable for you.

Elvin: But after filming for a few years, been very very good with her when filming this drama serial, after separating ways……I will start to have this problem. The first movie and the third movie was filming with Joanne Peh, after filming I would feel like eh, is in the show or is it real? Then slowly I know that actually it’s because of work.

Wang Yu Qin: After filming sometimes would feel lost, should call her or not, whether it’s ok or not……Since we’re in this topic, when do you plan to get married?

Elvin: Eh, following the overall crowd, approximately 35 years old.

Wang Yu Qin: In showbiz or not?

Elvin: Not important, most important is the feelings.

Wang Yu Qin: Very important. Advantages of being in the showbiz is that she will understand what it is, especially when you are handsome, young, holding hands and kissing surely there’s many chances to. If it’s someone that is not in showbiz, you want her to know friends from this line, perhaps she would feel embarrassed, after a long time you and her would lack of topics in common, she would feel awkward. If you keep taking care of her interest, you would also neglect your friends.

Elvin: Now I seldom go out with my friends in showbiz, even if I have a girlfriend outside of showbiz it’s not necessary that I would introduce them to her, so there’s no problem. I actually prefer girls outside showbiz, more pure, the people here are too goblin (cunning) already.

Wang Yu Qin: The actors last time were more united, when I was filming A Mother’s Love with Zoe Tay, she is working overtime we would all accompany her, the next day we all need to attend the morning shift, she also accompany us leh, that’s why until now, I, Chen Han Wei and  Hui Hui’s have a stable friendship now, because we paid a price for real friendship, filming till 11 pm till we knock off work, we artistes would stay in the resting room to wait for one another, then we drove to Malaysia to buy durian to eat. That time I fell in love with bowling, we played from 10 pm to 12pm at the bowling place, when it’s closed we would go to another outlet to play till dawn, that’s why we really look forward to filming everyday lor. It’s like a bomb. Malaysia’s sense of unity is better, and they are not so calculative, would drink tea together.

Elvin: Maybe at this place would want to protect yourself more, would feel that being too close with your colleagues would cause trouble.

Wang Yu Qin: If your heart is pure, then you do not have to worry. You are very fortunate, can represent Mercedes, last time having clothes sponsorship is already a very big deal. When I first started off at this line, they tell me that there’s no idol in Singapore, until Liang Li Ren arrives, then people say, “Wang Yu Qin is the first generation of idols”, but what does that first generation of idols benefit? Nothing ah. Now there’s so many opportunities, you must cherish what you have now.
